Aaaaannd…..I’m Off!

20170523_072659-COLLAGEIiiiittt’ssss GO GO GO!!!!

That’s how legendary F1 commentator, Murray Walker, used to start his race commentary. And that is how I choose to start my travel commentary!

The time has come y’all. I’ve reached the point of no return. I’m excited and petrified at the same time. After “much” planning, self-debate, and some serious prayers from mum, I’m ready to go see the beautiful world that God created. I should like to bring you with me for company and I submit that it would be good for you because if you “follow me go, na enjoyment go kill am oh“.

Song of the day: Today’s pick is Save Tonight by Eagle Eye Cherry. For some bizarre reason, this song more often than not, plays the night before I embark on a journey. So it is fitting that I pick this song tonight, because come tomorrow,  I will be gone.

Before I go, I would be remiss if I didn’t share an observation with you. When you go through a life altering event, as a human being your survival instincts kick in. For some that is being, as someone put it, secretive. You become “secretive” to protect not just yourself, but your family too. You do this to ensure that they don’t suffer what they did because of what happened to you. The problem though, is that those who are not privy to inside information don’t see your actions as self-preservation, but see them as being dishonest. On the other hand, if you don’t seek to course correct, then it feels like you have not learnt your lesson. This is something I continue to struggle with; how does one live life in normalcy while safeguarding for those whose actions one cannot control? Sigh, life. I continue to learn.

May your days be filled with light and may your nights be happy and calm.

Remember to love people and use things.

Next stop: Havana, Cuba.
